Hanging Rock and the Ranges, barely an hour out

Close enough for a half day, good enough for a full one — and the go-to for race days and events.

The Macedon Ranges sit under an hour north of Melbourne, which makes them the closest of the wine regions and the easiest event destination in the state. Hanging Rock is the anchor most groups know, and it has the space and access to take coaches properly — including on the days when several thousand other people have the same idea.

Event days are the specialty

Hanging Rock hosts race days, concerts and festivals, and those are exactly the days when driving yourself is worst: one road in, one road out, and no one wanting to be the sober one. A coach drops your group at the gate and collects them at an agreed time and place.

For events we agree the pick-up point and time before the day and put it in writing, because phone reception at a paddock full of people is not a plan.

The quieter version

Outside event days the Ranges are a relaxed winery and gardens run — Kyneton and Woodend for food, the Mount Macedon gardens in autumn, and the Rock itself for the walk to the summit. A comfortable half day, or a full one with lunch.

Common questions

Yes, and it is one of the better reasons to charter. We agree the collection point and time in advance and put it in writing, so nobody is trying to find a bus by phone at the end of the night.
