Werribee Open Range Zoo, with room to park

Thirty minutes west, purpose-built for groups, and the rare major venue where the coach can stay put.

Werribee Open Range Zoo is about thirty minutes west of the CBD, and it is the easiest of the three Zoos Victoria sites for coaches by a wide margin. Unlike Parkville, it was built with space — including on-site parking that a full-size coach can actually use, which changes the shape of the whole day.

The coach can stay

Because there is room on site, the driver and vehicle normally remain for the duration. That removes the two most common excursion headaches: a rigid return time, and a group standing at a gate waiting for a bus to come back from somewhere else.

It also means bags, spare jumpers and lunches can stay on the coach rather than being carried around a large open-range site all day.

The safari sets the schedule

The open-range safari is the centrepiece and it runs to a timetable. Getting a large group through it comfortably means arriving with margin rather than exactly on time, so we build the departure backwards from your safari slot.

The site is genuinely large and walking distances are real. Groups routinely underestimate how long the far end takes, and a coach that has waited is what turns that from a problem into a relaxed finish.

Common questions

At Werribee, normally yes — there is space on site. It is one of the practical advantages over the Parkville zoo and it usually makes the day run more calmly.
